• The Bell is one of the most famous, if not THE most famous coaching inn in England. It is depicted on Christmas cards, calendars, post cards etc. I took some friends over from the US for a meal. We were all disappointed. Internally it has been "tarted up" beyond all recognition from the traditional pub that I first visited thirty years ago. I suppose I should have expected it when I saw the word "Bistro" on the board outside. It is now a pretentious, over-priced attempt at a French restaurant. There are plenty such places around without despoiling such a traditional, English establishment. The food was very ordinary as was the service. Sorry, I cannot recommend the Bell.
