• Four of us booked an evening meal, and found the inn itself very interesting and the beautiful original features well kept.We ordered our meal and found the service excellent and the staff attentive. There were only three other people eating at the time so there was no excuse for the chips being stale and overcooked. My friend wanted a vegetarian option but all the vegetarian meals contained mushrooms which she cannot eat. The choice of food represented on the internet menu was not available at this time, so she chose to have the steak pie. We both had this and were very disappointed because although it contained huge chunks of meat it was very salty and did not contain any onions or anything else. There was a piece of short crust pastry on top which was soggy and tasteless. There did not appear to be a choice of vegetables and we were brought carrots and broccoli for all of us to share.My husband was happy with the chicken meal and his friend seemed happy with the lamb, but not the scone on top. I really feel that the choice of meals is not wide enough. The main problem in my view is that people today like to have a variety of well cooked vegetables: the focus in this pub seemed to be on serving lots of quality meat and the vegetables were treated as an afterthought. This pub is cosy and well appointed , it needs to vary its menus and come up to date with it's attitude towards the meat/vegetable balance, then the visitors will stream in and you can still keep some of the traditional meat and 2 veg stuff,which we all like, though make sure the vegetables are given more prominance and care. We did not say anything about the meal at the time because we did not want to spoil our friend's birthday, and we were not asked, though I write this with best wishes and intentions,yoursbest wishes
