• Can't speak for 6/7 years ago whem many of the reviews were written. I found them to be friendly, fast & clean with good quality fish and chips. Had tried several others before settling on 1st Plaice.

• Poor. What on earth happened. Used to love this chipper, but the quality has plummeted in the past year. Used to be thick white juicy and fleshy fish. Now it produces a watery tasteless mash. They tell us they haven't changed supplier - perhaps not but if so, they are buying the value produce to cut costs. A long way from the glory days when they won awards, what a shame. Avoid.

• Have never been disappointed. Previous comments about small portions just don't hold true in my experience. Yes they are busy and the service can be slow but for me that has always meant that my fish has been cooked whilst I wait and absolutely fresh. BEAUTIFUL fish and chips in my opinion. Try it and make your own mind up

• Tried for the first time this evening. staff were obviously busy which I accept but there were 4 groups in the queue (we were the second) and someone in the final group walked forward and put their order in and it was accepted. No acknowledgement of the rest of the customers. When order was taken the woman was impatient (even though they had completed their big order), no bag was offered when there was clearly a need, and no thanks. The 'large' portion could barely feed two (just about a handful each), overall the experience was below par and I don't believe it deserves the reputation it has.

• This is the best fish and chips I have had of anywhere. They have set the standard high, other fish and chip shops are just a disappointment. They do get very busy so be prepared to queue at certain times.

• Absolutely rude service. Girls who served me has thei hair down which was unhygienic. Didn't asked me for salt and vinegar and handled the food badly. Ordered a cheeseburger and the cheese was half way off the burger. I definitely won't be going there again.
