• Called for lunchtime buffet on Wed 21st December. The restaurant was quite busy with people out from work celebrating Christmas with their colleagues. We invariably have the 4 course meal but on this occasion, my wife and I had just the buffet meal. The first chicken dish was a korma and despite several fishing expeditions, I could not locate anything like a chunk of chicken in sauce which was the only thing that was abundant. The second chicken dish was a tikka masala that did contain some chicken but the pieces were miniscule and nothing like the chicken pieces that you could have expected, say, a year previous. With the number of people in the restaurant, the containers for these 2 dishes were soon empty ( with the exception of the korma sauce ) and I watched several customers get up to the buffet, swirl the korma sauce, stare into the empty masala container, and settle for the vegetable dishes. Overall, the food that was available was far too salty and was disappointing, to say the least. I am assuming that the Shabab has been taken over and the new owners think that they can cut down on the meat content to increase their margins. We have had 2 previous visits to the Shabab where the standard of the food had noticeably dropped but we decided to give the old place one last chance. On leaving the restaurant, there were 2 ladies complaining about the very same issue i.e. lack of meat in the dishes. Both they and I were given some excuse that 2 of the staff were stranded in a broken down car....what this had to do with the lack of meat in the dishes is anyone's guess....unless they were bringing the meat in the car!!!! The guy at the pay desk knocked £2.20 off the bill; I do not think he took kindly to the constructive criticism offered. Had some nice meals at the Shabab in the past but alas, no more. Would not be surprised to see this one slip quickly down the pan!!
