  • 2 star reviewtoday was a huge disappointment we went for the lunchtime special which we have had many times before I always go for the chilli ,it wasn't the same I felt as if I had the left overs in my dish,no peppers to be seen , my husband went for the burger it was basic , i know it was two meals for £9.99 but come on theres we still expect better than was served today , i felt as if the shepard are drastically cutting back on there service and quality

  • 5 star reviewI recently took a group of 20 for lunch at the Shepherd and Shepherdess as we were on our way to Beamish and it is so close. It counldn't have been any better, The food was delicious and great value for money. The staff were wonderful, freiendly and very efficient. As always happens on these organised days out 3 people dropped out on the day. I had pre-ordered the food so expected to be charged for the meals not eaten but the manager wouldn't hear of it. We all said we would go back.

  • 5 star reviewRecently went for a family Sunday dinner at the Shepherd, was thrilled with the experience; friendly staff, great food (massive Yorkshires!) and a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. A great place to go with both family and friends, and somewhere I will most definitely be visiting again :)

  • 5 star reviewI do not recognise the previous comments...I have been a regular at the Shepherd for many years and have always received excellent and friendly service and the food is always very good. A great pub run by great people. Highly recommended!

  • 1 star reviewAvoid like the plague. We went here today, food was poor and service shoddy. The most annoying thing was that the staff member who served us said that they would need to keep hold of my debit card until the end of the meal and it would be returned when we paid the bill. I took exception to this and paid cash instead. surely this isn't legal?? Why would keeping the card assist them in obtaining payment for the meal? Very sharp practice and not customer friendly. Will not be returning here again.

  • 1 star reviewif you come across the shepherd and shepherdess pub,my advise is to walk on by and spend your hard earned cash elsewhere!! rude staff and appaling food! there so many nicer pubs around the area....the beamish mary, the black horse, the stables, the viewtops, and the blue bell to name a few and many more in the area....do a google!

  • 1 star reviewThis pub is in my opinion shabby and unwelcoming it has all of the signs of a business in decline. There are better nearby
