  • 1 star reviewThis place has really gone down hill, which is saying something. The area deserves a much better class of carvery, but management seem to run the place just for their friends and associates. A group of us got there for a bite to eat and drinks and waited ages before being reluctantly served (with attitude) and the order was wrong, which we got the blame for. The meals were almost microwaveable quality and to be honest, one star rating is one star too much.

  • 1 star reviewTook the kids for a break as I needed a rest. I found the play area to be unsupervised and badly managed. We were not there long before a fight broke out between a lad and his girlfriend who were both very very drunk. He grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the floor before making a awful scene. No one helped her. The kids we're terrified and I made my excuses and left. Terrible place. This happened on a Sunday about 4 in the afternoon. I talked to one of the regulars who told me that things like this are to be expected in such a rough area. Well not in front of my kids.

  • 1 star reviewAwful service probably influenced by bad management. Although they have a wide and varied range of food and drinks, it's very ordinary. Saying that, the desserts are great but overall it's a very mediocre pub. They should take a leaf out of the Joshua Bradley in Stockport, now that's an amazing place, clean, safe, amazing service and the quality of customer care is second to none!

  • 1 star reviewbeen in quite a few times now and unfortunately more often than none we get awful service, dreadful management (if you dare to complain) and an unpleasant evening overall due to the music being unnecessarily loud. decent enough beers available, but you can get that anywhere. highlights are the fights and people occasionally urinating outside. shame as it's actually a nice building - just badly managed.
Not going there again! Reviewed 4th September 2013 9:58 AM
  • 4 star reviewFantastic day out today. took my two kids to the Toybox to please the whole family. The kids got to use the play centre ( a bit loud for me!!) for over an hour then we all ate in the spacious, yet very busy restaurant. We reserved a table which we are glad we did and as requested it was in the area where the whole family could watch the Man City v Cardiff game too. The food was good especially the Burgers which were cooked to perfection. Mark was fantastic with us giving colouring sheets to keep the kids occupied too. Great place and we will continue to use. There are several poor reviews on other sites and I think they are made up ones because this place caters for everyone. Mary

  • 1 star reviewAwful place. Rude staff and bad food. It was good a few years ago, but new owners have taken it over and are employing minimum wage staff who don't stay very long and don't care about what they serve.

  • 1 star reviewI went with my wife and 4 children. The manager Colin, mixed the order up and sent a beefburger instead of a chicken burger. I took the beefburger back and told them I had ordered a Chicken burger, only to be told that I was a liar by the manager. I was not provided the correct order or a refund, and was told to put my complaint in writing. What an awful place!

  • 5 star reviewThis is one of the best carvery's around. The food is excellent,Their vegetables represent good 'old English' fare, and are always cooked to perfection. The best home made yorkshire puddings, Meat cooked to perfection. The Staff at the Toybox are warm and welcoming, I found them to be most attentive and pleasant. I am happy to recommend it to everyone.

  • 2 star reviewLoudness of music in play area has been very annoying. Rules should apply to everyone, if kids have to take their shoes off before entering play area, parents should do as well. Could be a much better place with a little care and respecting their own rules.
