Rented a 7.5 ton truck from Camel Hire to move house in May 2012. The truck broke down 3 miles into the journey due to auxiliary belt being worn down to 1/3 of normal size, fanbelt tensioner pully was worn out and displaying warning light for battery. Also, the exhaust brake relief valve had broken off. Luckily our driver was a mechanic who could help get the truck back on the road after 4 hours in a garage and fitting a new part, but he considered the truck not roadworthy and dangerous to drive. It would not have passed a VOSA check. Apart from this, the truck was dirty and dilapidated and it's clear that Camel Hire don't check their vehicles between hires. When I called the company to complain it didn't occur to them to even apologise, offer a replacement vehicle or compensate for the loss of time. DANGEROUS and unhelpful.Rating history and distribution
