• I have been to some real dives on my travels to see live music, but this place really lowers the bar to undredged depths. It is an ancient underground hole, which if stripped of it's sorry looking sound system could be pressed into service by the Spanish Inquisition. Security there is terrible, the doors were left unattended prior to the show I was going to see so I entered unchallenged for lack of any notices advising otherwise. I was able to buy an overpriced drink at the bar and finish a quarter of it during a soundcheck before two security staff (as delapidated as the venue) decided to ask around who were ticketholders and who were performers. Being honest and assuming they were doing a routine ticket check I showed them my ticket and was promptly told that I would have to leave and would not be allowed be allowed to take my overpriced drink with me. They were surly and clearly suppressing urges to throw expletives at me when I implied their dereliction towards their duties. Were it not for the rail disruptions a friend would have joined me from the South-East for the show, but having seen the place I would be unwilling to take a woman there. Next time I see a band due to perform there, I'll travel further to see them rather than attend a tour date at the Cavern.
