  • 1 star reviewHaving eaten here many times before, I decided to book a table for 6 to celebrate my wife's birthday. Oh how I wish I hadn't!! Arriving at 8pm we were told that our table was through into the back room, no problems there as we've been seated there before. We then waited for menus to arrive but after some 20 mins they did not materialise so we strolled around to find our own. Laminated grubby sheets that resembled something from a greasy spoon cafe; we perused the menu and made our choices. After some 45 mins I asked where our food was only to be told by the young waiter that it was taking a little longer than usual because our steaks had been in the freezer and were defrosting!! Another 15 mins went by and finally our food turned up. My daughter’s fillet steak resembled a poor quality burger, cooked to death and tough as old boots, 2 T bone steaks that were obviously cut from the same batch were of such poor quality that we could not cut through with the sharpest steak knife. A vegetable lasagne that comprised of 3 sheets of pasta, cheese sauce but minus the vegetables and a beef stroganoff that was so bland it seemed that it was beef in a cream sauce. I must say that 1 meal was edible, the lamb cutlets although they did forget to bring the chips with this so we had to share. The chips themselves had been cooked to death, dry hard and so unappetising. When, unable to eat the food in front of us, I decided to complain. I asked to speak to someone from the kitchen. They sent a waiter. I asked again and 20 mins later the owner approached with the words "Problem" from the minute he entered into conversation we knew he was unimpressed by the fact we had complained. WE were made to feel that it was our fault as we had been asked if everything was ok. I then tried to reason with him but he was more interested in trying to start an argument with 1 of our party. Never in my life have I witnessed such poor customer service from a well-established business, never have I been made to feel that we owed them an apology for such poor quality food and service. Although after some time he agreed to reduce the bill and charge us just for drinks (I did however insist on paying more) I still felt like we were in the wrong. Never will we eat at this pub again, we were asked the day after for the number as a relative was going to book for a large party to celebrate a birthday, this however will not happen. I have spoken to friends and family since and they have had similar experiences and will not be returning. I understand that there are people out there that will complain for the sake of complaining, but surely when a table of 6 leave all their food there is a "Problem" and the owner would want to rectify this as soon as possible. Is this business just a hobby to him or is he a serious landlord who cares about his reputation and understands that word of mouth can kill a business. Time will tell.

  • 1 star reviewWe usually visit the Inn 2 or 3 times during the course of the summer when passing through the area and have been doing so for some 15 years. On our first visit this year however we found that not only had the standard of mealsdropped but the price of food and drinks had risen considerably - a great shame. The only consolation being the helfullness and pleasantness of the waiters. We hope that things will have improved before our next call otherwise it will be the last.
