Owner description of Golden Ball Hotel

"Snatchems (The Golden Ball Inn)is on the banks of the River Lune, approx 1km from Asda roundabout on Morecambe Rd. It is one of the best pubs in the country, retaining all its original feathers. Food is served all day every day and the pub is open all year. The new barn extension has given more dining area and doubles for both family and corporate functions. Car park situated at the rear of pub"

  • 1 star reviewAbsolutely appalled by the way a staff member/ the owner spoke to us. Presuming because of how we were dressed and what animal we were walking that we were from the travelling community. New to the area so having a walk and admiring the view and this man spoke to us with utter disrespect. Glad we weren't paying customers because I certainly wouldn't waste anymore money there! I'd give 0 stars if that was an option.

  • 5 star reviewI cannot believe some of the comments on here or other review sites. What do these people want from a pub? It's not a restaurant and the prices reflect that. Beer is as cheap as anywhere in the area, and fantastic local Cross Bay Zenith at that, served by staff who are always friendly and talkative - as long as you give them the respect they deserve! There are snacks and sandwiches if you want them or more substantial meat dishes if you prefer all at exceptionally good prices. I've never had a bad meal there. The views are wonderful and watching the wildlife in summer and winter provides fascinating entertainment. The upstairs extension is a fantastic add-on and allows all year round viewing of such a beautiful area. As for someone claiming they waited 25 minutes and leaving without being served - I suggest that's as exaggerated as most of the other rubbish on here!

  • 1 star reviewWent to Snatchems today, really wanted to like it as the current owners have obviously spent a fortune on a beautiful extension. Honestly, it was terrible. Pot of tea with lunch awful and cold, cutlery was wrapped in a serviette sealed with a blank pricing sticker! Fish and chips poor at best, peas were tinned, staff clueless, one of the waiters(obviously family of owner) wearing shorts. Every time I went to the bar downstairs had to wait 5 minutes for service as no one was there. There was a flat screen in the dining room showing a bizarre family photo album. Please employ a decent chef and train your serving staff or call Gordon Ramsay, you have invested so much in the fabric sort the infastructure.

  • 2 star reviewSat in the bar at Snatchems as I write this. We frequently call in for a drink when in the area, but haven't eaten here. However, the glass in which my wife's drink was served had old lipstick stains on it, the tables are dusty as are the beams and other pieces of furniture. The barmaid seemed disinterested and overall impression was that standards are slipping.

  • 3 star reviewWe have visited snatchems a couple of times as we think the pub and the new extension is beautiful. unfortunately, the food on all occasions has not been great; they claim to have pub grub, however chicken chips and beans are the extent of this- which definitely did not taste like heinz as stated on the menu. Very expensive for what you get, mayonnaise tastes like the one from Aldi and leads me to believe that other products could be from there? Table service is faultless lovely young man was very pleasant however lady behind the bar- not approachable and needs to smile!

  • 5 star reviewJust returned home after a great meal with relatives from France, the food was fantastic, good honest British food, and very generous portions, very friendly staff and atmosphere I definitely would recommend the Golden Ball or "Snatchems" as it is known in this area.

  • 5 star reviewI visit the place quite regularly with my young daughter. What's not to like - a beautiful setting and a place that's retained all of the character of a traditional pub. Flawless new dining room extension with amazing views, perfect for a party I went to recently for which it was used, good honest food, big safe new play area, nice terrace to eat and sit out when it's not too cold, friendly people and staff, nothing is too much trouble. I'd recommend to all.

  • 3 star reviewCalled in to Snatchem`s for a bite to eat. The only wait was for the tide to go out on the road outside. We just had a couple of sandwiches and a bowl of chips. one beef and one ham. Both were excellent, home cooked roast beef, nice thick slices and the chips were really nice, crisp and dry hand cut chips. Service was faultless, no waiting and cheerful staff. Quiet for a bank holiday,(good friday 2013) but the place was filling up as we left. View was very good, we will be back for something more substantial next time

  • 5 star reviewI visited the pub for a Clandestine Cake Club event. The service was excellent. The pub has a wonderful space upstairs in 'the barn' that we used for our Christmas meeting. We were well looked after and I hope to use the venue again for another function.

  • 4 star reviewCouldn't believe negative reviews so decided to go see. Beer was excellent, food was good pub grub at a fair price and served within 10 minutes, and the views over the Lune & Aldcliffe Marsh from the new room are outstanding. No complaints at all, but one recommendation, the 'service' bell at the bar needs highlighting more as we saw a couple leave after not being served as the barman was clearing tables upstairs. Another couple who saw the sign were dealt with immediately.

  • 5 star reviewi am the owner of the Golden Ball, locally known as 'Snatchems'. please note this is a pub...serving pub grub. every table has a table number and a sign asking for people to order at the bar. I do not think it unreasonable for people to order their food at the bar, this is common in most British pubs. If people are going to put bad comments on the internet i think they should have the decency to approach the owner and give him a chance to explain. By putting bad comments on line you run the risk of damaging a business to the point it may have to close down ....if this is what you want to do just because you could not be bothered to place your order at the bar !! well get a life

  • 5 star reviewI am a longtime regular and currently work at the pub. We aim to provide good honest pub grub at modest prices. We do not pretend to be any kind of fancy or posh restaurant, but a large number of regulars and 270 Facebook followers (The Golden Ball at Snatchems) agree that this is a wonderful place. So many, in fact, that at peak times, it can be difficult to serve all at the same time. Please be patient. Snatchems is a place to relax, stare at the river and unwind. If you find cause for complaint, please let us know straightaway.

  • 1 star reviewWhy go to all the expense of adding a wonderful extension and ruin everything by serving absolutely dreadful food. Getting yourself a good chef and a decent menu should be the priority otherwise people like us will never return - no matter how good the view! You only get one chance - maybe two if you're lucky - to create a good impression!
