• We went to The Nelson last night and I can say with confidence we will never go again. We went with some family friends visiting from London so we wanted to have a nice time - a modest party of 4, we thought we could turn up and get a table on a midweek evening. We arrived at around 7.20pm, and the waitress asked us twice if we had booked a table; when we said no, she walked off muttering something about not having to wait for anybody. We then had to go and fetch our own menus. We ordered our food and proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. In the meantime I went to the ladies room, which is in serious need of some cleaning and attention. Toilet rolls were dumped on top of sanitary bins, which I find unhygienic and distasteful; and the toilets needed in general a thorough scrub, especially the tired sink area. Finally a full HOUR after ordering the food arrived. The "fish pie" specials had, quite clearly, been microwaved prior to serving and reduced in the process to a steaming mess of molten lava potato and cheese, with very little fish in evidence. The portion sizes on the other 2 meals were tiny, but at that stage we were all so tired, hungry and fed-up that we ate it, paid the bill and made a hasty exit. I would have loved to complain but for the fact that this would have upset my father, and our guests for the evening. The waitress (the one who asked us twice if we had booked a table) did manage an embarrassed apology, but no offer was made to deduct something from the food bill. Overpriced, slow and sloppy, and the whole place needs a good clean. Give it a wide berth!!!

• Stuart was an excellent host and the food was fantastic! We only booked a table for 8 people very last minute but he was able to accommodate. 10/10. Would definately recommend. Brilliant food, service and atmosphere.

• Open for lunch (summer months) and for dinner. Adequate menu catering for all tastes. Superb quality food, not pretentious, i.e. food served on a plate not piled up in a square bucket. Good portion too. Very accommodating, flexible, courteous staff. Excellent value for money. Not so easy to find down the lanes, but ample parking.
