• Have just got back from a meal in Roberto's restaurant in Rickmansworth with my wife and son. In making the booking we made absolutely clear that they understood the booking was on Tastecard, establishing that fact before mentioning anything else or going ahead to mention dates, time etc. At the meal, on Thursday evening 6 Feb, we chose exclusively off the a la carte menu. The prices were all clearly set out, and purely "a la carte" with no additional "supplements indicated. On asking for the bill at the end however the restaurant insisted on charging an additional £6 for each of the 3 steaks that we ordered, over and above all other charges and with no information on this on the menu or Tastecard website - and unadvertised £18 "supplement". Basically, it was just a scam. As I write this I am kicking myself for having paid the bill so as not to cause a fuss in front of my family as I left, along with a generous service charge that had also already been pre-loaded onto the bill. A comment as we queried the final bill, assertively and several times, was that we couldn't expect to eat steak for half price. Tastecard followed up but, such is the manner in which that company operates, despite establishing unequivocally the restaurant's dishonesty and flagrant rulebreaking it (i) allowed the restaurant to continue in its scheme and (ii) blocked our objective review of the restaurant's behaviour -as we've since found out it does any other bad reviews of its restaurant members.
