• as a regular customer @ the Star, I can honestly say that it is the cleanest pub in the area. Offers 4 traditional beers and first class home cooked food which attracts a lot of repeat custom from both visitors and locals. Well worth a visit.

• on 19th July 2012 me and my fiancé went into Filey looking for something to eat, we had a walk around and ended up outside The Star, enticed somewhat by the 5* food hygiene rating. We ordered drinks and they were satisfactory so we had a look at the menu. The pub was pretty quiet, other than a couple of blokes playing pool and what appeared to be the owner's daughter and her child at the back of the pub. I decided on the beef chilli with chips and my partner opted for steak and ale pie. The landlady confirmed that my partner wanted mash with her pie and sent the order through. It took a little longer than expected for the food to come out, I thought that it was being freshly cooked so we enjoyed our drinks and had a chat whilst we were waiting. When the food arrived I asked for tomato sauce, it seemed to be an effort for the landlady to get this for me. My partner got chips instead of mash but decided not to say anything as we'd waited long enough. My chilli was shockingly bad, barely cooked mince with some tinned, chopped tomatoes in, no spices, no onions and not one kidney bean! The chips were very nice though. My fiancé's pie wasn't much better, it came in a pie dish, rock hard pastry on top but nothing on the sides. She had the chips as they'd forgotten the mash and the peas were ok too. We we're not asked if the food was ok and considered that if we complained it wouldn't be taken very kindly. To summarise, absolutely awful. There are only a few places to eat in Filey and it is such a shame that the food was so poor in this pub. A good pub meal would attract a lot of business in this area, unfortunately we were very disappointed with what was put on our table and the service that came with it.
