  • 5 star reviewJust been for a meal for the first time since it has been taken over and have to say both myself and my wife were very impressed! Both the food and service were of an excellent standard , I had the pigeon to start and the halibut for main course and both where delicious and beautifully presented , will definatley be back!

  • 1 star reviewOnly one vegetarian choice on the menu. If a meat eater was offered one choice of meal at a restaurant they would walk out. Disgraceful !

  • 1 star reviewDON'T BOTHER IF YOU HAVE AN INTOLERENCE - A LICK OF PAINT AND S NEW MENU MAY LOOK GOOD BUT AFTER ASKING TWICE WETHER SOMETHING WAS WHEAT FREE AND BEEN TOLD YES BY THE CHEF. BOW IN SERIOUS DISCOMFORT AND FOOD HAD TO GO BACK TO BE REHEATED. ALSO THE ATMOSPHERE IS LIKE A CANTEEN, POOR ACOUSTICS .

  • 5 star reviewSince the pub re-opened following refurbishment we have eaten here on an evening and on a lunchtime too. The food is consistently good. This is exactly what this area has needed for a long time. I would highly recommend it.

  • 1 star reviewI have been several times since the current owners took over. Iinitially the food was very good but has progressively gone down hill. To ightd offering was a really poor meal, Belly Pork, rancid taste to crackling that was inpossible to eat and sent back to the chef. Old fat to was probably used to cook chips that were par cooked and then fatty when finally prepared. Creme brulee desert was dreadfull and again rejected, grainy centre and carbonised not caramelised top. Worse of all the waiter who came to discuss the faults had a very arrogant attitude even though I was trying to be discreet and quiet about the problems. He begrudgingly removed the desert from the bill not recognising that less than 5% of the thing had been tasted. Need to do a lot better before I will return again.

  • 5 star reviewThe food is excellent, you can tell it is proper home cooked good food and you get what you pay for. The service is also very good, the staff are all polite and always have a smile on their face. We have been several times and will keep going back. Super!

  • 5 star reviewIt's changed hands and it's fantastic now. We've eaten there more times in the past three months than we did in the previous ten years. The food is excellent - and the bar prices have come down !

  • 1 star reviewAs I said to the barmaid one of the most expensive pubs in uk. A pint of Jennings Cumberland £3.25. The most I have ever paid anywhere else in a pub is £3.10. Give this pub a miss.
